            The Department of Radiology in Coimbatore Medical College is more than 60 years old, having had its origin in the erstwhile district head quarters’ hospital. After upgradation into a Medical College in 1966, the department has grown by leaps and bounds offering complete range of advanced diagnostic imaging services, catering to all specialty and super specialty departments. The facilities offered are Digital Radiography, Computed Radiography, Conventional X Rays, Mammography, Ultrasound, Color Doppler, Spiral CT scan, 1.5 Tesla MRI scan and image guided procedures.

Commendable work was done by the postgraduates, faculty & technical personnel in tackling the second wave of the pandemic in 2021, without compromising on the TAEI & elective imaging. A phenomenal 20,516 CT scans for covid & covid-suspect patients were performed in the year 2021 in the dedicated 3rdCT scanner.
CMEs conducted:
  1. A half day CME in Interventional Radiology was conducted on Nov 7th 2021 with five speakers in MEU Hall, CMCH to commemorate International Day of Radiology. A vision statement of ‘FAIR for all’ – ‘Full-fledged accessible interventional radiology for all’ was released by Dr Mathew Cherian in the presence of our Dean Prof Dr A. Nirmala and the President of IRIA state chapter Dr A. Anbarasu
  2. Biopsy Workshop was organised on Oct 20th 2021 with various types of biopsy needles and phantoms with hands on practice session.
Guest Lectures organized:

Monthly Interventional Neuro-radiology guest lecture series was commenced from September 2021, with last Saturday of each month earmarked for the same. So far, four topics were covered by Dr Rajesh Rangaswamy, overseas Interventional Neuroradiologist and CMC alumni, with the lecture on December 27th 2021 being in physical mode.
New procedures commenced:

Interventional Radiology procedures were recommenced from November 2021 with valuable assistance from practising interventionists. So far 3 cases of Bronchial artery embolization, 2 cases of uterine AVM embolization and 2 cases of stroke thrombectomy have been completed in November & December 2021 with good results. The non-neuro interventional procedures were well co-ordinated by Dr Praveen Kumar.
