In Coimbatore Medical College Hospital Tuberculosis outpatients services started functioning from 195 .It continued to function under the Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme with effect from March 18, 2002. At present with the latest facilities, it is functioning as THORACIC MEDICINE DEPARTMENT.
PATIENT CARE SERVICES:

1.Spirometry - This test is used to distinguish Obstructive and Restrictive lung diseases and for preoperative assessment of pulmonary function in patients undergoing abdominal or thoracic surgeries.
2.DLCO - For Early detection of Restrictive Lung disease and to assess prognosis of restrictive lung disease this investigation is done in our department.
3.Sputum for AFB - To diagnose patients with tuberculosis, this test is being carried out as per RNTCP guidelines.
4.MANTOUX - Mantoux test for the diagnosis of Paediatric tuberculosis and extra pulmonary tuberculosis is done for 80 -100 patients per month.
5. Bronchoscopy – FIBEROPTIC VIDEOBRONCHOSCOPE is carried out
To inspect the bronchial tree
To detect intra luminal pathologies like cancer, foreign body etc
To take Biopsy from intra luminal mass, bronchial brushing, bronchial wash and broncho alveolar lavage.
6.Asthma clinic –A weekly clinic, to diagnose, monitor, treatment and follow up of bronchial asthma patients.
7.RNTCP (Revised National Tuberculosis control Programme) - To issue DOTS therapy, follow up and treatment of Tuberculosis patients.
8.DOTS PLUS - For admission of Multi drug resistant TB patients, to issue DOTS PLUS regimen, follow up and treatment of Drug Resistant Tuberculosis patients.
